The Metro Manila Chinese Education Association convened its 2023-2024 annual meeting on April 5 to 6 at Canyon Woods Resort Club in Batangas.

Around 100 teachers from 22 Chinese schools in Metro Manila attended the event.

Association president Cai Lisha believes that holding the annual meeting will enable member schools to connect with one other.

“It is commendable to see member schools persevering through the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and undertaking teaching reforms to elevate Chinese education to a more proficient and impactful level. I firmly believe that the remarkable achievements of Chinese schools can be attributed to the dedication and diligence of our hardworking teachers,” said Tsai Lisha.

Philippine Chinese Education Research Center chairman Huang Duanming commended everyone for continuing their teaching profession especially during the pandemic period.

“Chinese education in the Philippines has a long-standing history, with some schools having reached the impressive milestone of 100 years. I hope everyone keeps focused on running schools seriously, stays curious to research, remains dedicated to teaching rigorously, and strives to provide high quality Chinese education,” he said.

She underscored the importance of educators upholding a high standard of professional ethics.

“The essential qualities for educators include passion, dedication, benevolence, persistence, justice, inclusion, gratitude, and a cheerful demeanor. It is very important to provide children equal opportunities and we, educators should be positive role models.” Cai Yi Shu said.

Cai Huimin, the primary school head of the Chinese Department at Overseas Chinese College, noted the importance of following five crucial steps in Chinese classroom teaching: organizing instruction, reviewing material, introducing new lessons, reinforcing learning, and assigning homework.

Yang Meimei, vice president of the Philippine Chinese Education Research Center served as the speaker during the third seminar. She talked about the theoretical basis for the design of the Chinese character courses and introduced the book Philippine Chinese Character Reading Textbook.
