The Supreme Court (SC) will have no a session starting on Monday, Dec. 13 until Jan. 2, as the justices start their traditional Yuletide recess which usually has been devoted to studying and writing resolutions or decisions on pending cases before it.

The SC led by Chief Justice Alexander G. Gesmundo held its traditional Christmas party on Friday, Dec. 10, with the theme “A Toast to a Peaceful Christmas & a New Year Full of Hope: Sana All.”

Due to COVID-19 protocols, a virtual party – which started with a thanksgiving mass — was held with monitors set up in different areas of the court’s compound where employees can watch, while others joined via the video conferencing platform Zoom.

“We should not allow the simplicity of the celebration to dampen our spirits, for as much as an occasion to rejoice, Christmas is a time for contemplation — a time to contemplate on God’s love, a love that impelled Him to give us the greatest gift of all, His son Jesus Christ,” Gesmundo said, in his Christmas message to SC employees.

The Chief Justice paid tribute to officials and employees for “working so hard with dedication and loyalty so that our Court will not cease operating, and we should continue providing what our people and country deserve.”

Sessions in the SC’s three divisions will resume on Jan. 3.  Full court session starts Jan. 4 and every Tuesday thereafter.
