Leni’s ‘People Council’ to organize sectors backing her presidential bid

Vice President Leni Robredo will be launching the “Robredo’s People Council” to organize her supporters and volunteers for the 2022 presidential election.

“We are forming a Robredo’s People Council for every sector and provinces to have a clear and organized movement,” she said in a video message on her official Facebook page.

She said the council would better organize those supporting her presidential candidacy and even avoid the duplication of campaign programs and awareness-building efforts.

Robredo said there have been various groups on Facebook supporting her bid, too.

The council is patterned after the Naga City People’s Council, a movement institutionalized by her late husband, Jesse Robredo.

Robredo thanked all her supporters and posted different slogans, posters, hashtags and pieces of artwork from her volunteers which she dubbed a “people’s campaign.”

“I cannot thank you one by one, but I just want to tell you that I can see all that you do (for me). All of you, you offer to volunteer, and that makes our people’s campaign strong,” she said.

Earlier, Robredo offered her “ambitious” P500-billion COVID-19 response plan which she will prioritize should she win as president in the next year’s elections.

“We have to be ambitious because our problem is huge,” she said.

The Vice President said many aspects of the plan are already being implemented by her office despite the OVP’s meager budget.

“We are able to execute some of the programs despite our meager budget, which we decided to shift to COVID response. It is possible. We just need to be all hands on deck, all agencies committed, so that unused funds can be channeled for COVID response,” Robredo said.

She cited the discretionary funds of the Office of the President that amount to P4.5 billion and the special purpose funds of other agencies worth around P54 billion.
