The Philippines posted the second fastest automotive sales recovery in the Association of Southeast Asian Nations with a 29.5-percent growth in the first nine months to 191,605 units from 148,012 units in the same period in 2020.
A recent sales report released by the ASEAN Automotive Federation showed the sales recovery of the Philippines came after Indonesia with a 68.7-percent increase in the comparable period to 627,537 units from 372,046 units last year.
Singapore and Vietnam reported positive sales growth of 19.5 percent to 48,167 units from 39,480 units, and 188,937 from 179,156 units, respectively.
The rest of ASEAN Federation members registered slower sales over the pandemic period. Malaysia reported a 7.3-percent drop in sales over the first nine months to 318,874 units from 344,019 units in 2020.
Myanmar posted a decline of 51.2 percent to 7,526 units from 15,433 units a year earlier while Thailand saw sales contract by 0.5 percent to 531,931 units from 634,765 units.
Total sales in the region went up by 17.2 percent to 1.91 million units in the nine-month period from 1.63 million units a year earlier.
Meanwhile, sales of motorcycles and scooters went up 12.5 percent to 2.57 million units in the first three quarters from 2.29 million units in 2020.
The Philippines recorded the fastest growth of 29.2 percent to 1 million units from 807,020 units while Singapore sold 8,830 units in 2021, up by 15.2 percent from 7,665 units in 2020.
Thailand sold 1.2 million units in the first nine months, or 4.9 percent higher than 2021 sales of 1.15 million.
Malaysia recorded sales decline of 2 percent to 327,065 units from 332,741 units.
