A nationwide campaign to promote good physical and mental health for every Filipino child in time of pandemic, Zumbarangay Pilipinas: Solo Exercise On-Cam Challenge was launched by the Philippine Sports Commission Women in Sports mid this year to avert the increasing number of physical, emotional and mental health issues worldwide.

The contest, which was open to women, girls and LGBTQI, encourages regular solo dancing at home. With that, the PSC produced original music “Igalaw-galaw ating Katawan” for the public to use.

“The lyrics of the song itself is our campaign for the public to start fitness at home,” said PSC chair William Ramirez.

“At the height of pandemic mid this year, we cannot afford to just sit down and watch the rising concerns about the mental health of a generation of children caused by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Oversight Commissioner for Women in Sports, Celia Kiram. “With powerful emotions like anxiety, uncertainty, grief and loneliness affecting the lives of our children, we need to be creative in ways to drastically get them moving through dancing.”

The Girls Open is just one of the categories of Zumbarangay Pilipinas, open to 6-17 years old girls under the supervision of a parent/guardian.

Zumbarangay Pilipinas Production Director and Women in Sports Consultant Marilou Cantancio announced that by mid-November, the best 25 video entries will be selected from among 50 entries in the quarterfinal rounds.

Winners in the semifinals will get P1,000 each. Winners here will advance to the Finals Round with the 1st Placer per category getting P30,000; 2nd placer per category getting P20,000; 3rd placer per category getting P10,000. Ten (10) Special Awardees per category will be selected, and each gets P3,000.00.
