Bubble training for members of the national team in Baguio City will be done in different places.
Commissioner Ramon Fernandez of the Philippine Sports Commission said this following talks with local government unit of the City of Pines.
Fernandez said the PSC facilities at the Teachers’ Camp should be able to accommodate around 200 athletes during normal times.
But because of coronavirus restrictions that are now in place, only half of this number can be accommodated.
“Around 200 plus and puwede sa mga dorms in normal times. Kaso, 50% na lang ang puwede,” said Fernandez in a radio interview on PSC Hour.
The national karatedo team has already entered the bubble, while the national boxing contingent is returning to resume working out as well at the National Teachers’ Camp this week.
Members of the national athletics’ team are set to go their separate ways at the facility near Burnham Park and will stay at dormitories provided by the Department of Education.
The Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association has also made arrangements for special permits from the local government unit of Baguio City.
They seek authorization for long-distance and middle-distance runners, so they can run and jog around without any light respiratory gear covering their faces.
For now, the preparation of Filipino athletes are geared towards their participation in the 6th Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games in Bangkok and Chonburi, Thailand from March 10 to 20.
