La Union grabs share of cage lead

The La Union PAOwer grabbed a share of the lead in the team standings after defeating the Paranaque Aces, 93-78, in the Chooks-to-Go NBL Chairman’s Cup 2021 at the Bren Z. Guiao Convention Center last Sunday.

Jayson Apolonio scored a game-high 23 points and hauled 10 rebounds, and Kirk Agulan fired 21 points for the PAOwer as they join idle Quezon Barons on top of the team standings with a 3-0 win-loss record.

Billy Boado had 14 points and 10 rebounds, and Ian Ralf Llona had 12 points and 13 rebounds for La Union as it swept its weekend games in San Fernando, Pampanga.

La Union defeated Muntinlupa, 91-83, last Saturday.

In other games, the Taguig Generals also completed a sweep of their weekend games, beating the Laguna Pistons, 79-75.

Francisco Tancioco had 27 points and buried the go-ahead triple with 7.2 seconds left, giving the Generals a 76-75 lead. They hanged on to claim the victory with the Generals starting out the season with a 2-0 win-loss record.

The Muntinlupa Water Warriors outclassed the Bulacan DF Republicans, 103-85, to improve their win-loss record to 2-1.

Biboy Enguio had another double-double with 29 points and 12 rebounds for the Water Warriors, who bounced back from their loss to La Union last Saturday.

The loss was the first for the Republicans after four games after their stunning win over the Pampanga Delta, 93-91, last Saturday.
