No politics yet for Manila Mayor Francisco Domagoso aka Isko Moreno, saying the country still grapples with issues to put a stop to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“At this point in time, I’m not entertaining political matters,” said Domagoso who earlier admitted he will run in the upcoming 2022 national and local elections.
However, Domagoso declined to say if he will seek reelection in Manila or seek higher position.
The name of Domagoso has been floated as possible contender for president or vice president in next year’s election.
The Manila mayor noted that all talk of coalition or any political talk is untimely and premature.
“Fighting Covic, feeding Manilenos and strengthening our economy are my only concern,” he emphasized.
Right now, the Manila mayor said he is more focused on vaccinating 1.1 million Manilenos in 22 vaccination centers.
He said he would dispense all the available doses they bought plus the vaccines coming from the national government.
“I am also focussed on the 700k family food packs to ensure that nobody in Manila will go hungry,” he said.
Looking forward, he assured that Manila is prepared to “Bounce Back” once we achieved herd immunity soon.
Manila was among the cities with the higest number of Covid-19 cases as Metro Manila was then the epicenter of the new coronavirus.
Domagoso was sought for comments on Sen. Francis Pangilinan’s remark that the Liberal Party is making an effort to get in touch with him for a possible coalition.
Pangilinan also said they want to tap Lacson to join a big coalition they intend to build.
Lacson said this was not the first time there was an overture from the LP camp.
“All those times that I was approached, I have always responded with an open mind as far as the Liberal Party it is work in progress,” he said.
“I guess it’s the scheduling and other factors so they are not sitting on it yet- until the 1Sambayan coalition emerged, with public pronouncements that tend to divide rather than unite,” he said.
Lacson said he has talked to other LP members and coalition allies but not Pangilinan.
On the otherhand, Sen. Nancy Binay said there are still several wounds to heal before she can accept the offer of LP to join them.
Sen. Joel Villanueva said he is open to coalesce especially with big political parties. He is thankful to Pangilinan, LP president and Senate President Tito Sotto, Acting NPC President for including his name in their coalition.
“The reality is, no matter how big your party is, you never walk- or walk alone. It is always good to march with a lot of good people. That is how progress is made,” he said.
