You cannot keep a plant alive for more than a week, let alone grow it. Or maybe, you think growing indoor plants is not possible in the space you have. These plant experts, enthusiasts, and self-avowed plantitos and halamoms believe if there’s a will, there’s a way.
Utilize vertical spaces or tables
Plant parent Gia Mirabueno says those who do not have the luxury of space can lift smaller and lighter plants from the floor and hang them from ceilings or settle them on unused spaces on wall shelves or study tables.
Put plants in the bathroom
Balcony and living room are not the only places which can be spruced up by plants. Interior stylist and vlogger Kai Palileo-Cruz says putting plants that love water in the bathroom is a good practice because bathrooms have high humidity where plants could easily thrive.
Install grow lights
Plant dad Earl Moreno underscores the importance of grow lights to make homes—especially those lacking in natural light – more suitable and livable for plants. Different plants have different needs, he says, some indoor plants specifically need to grow lights to survive.
Start small
On discussing the importance of life with nature for city dwellers, Dr. Joanne Blanco shares that since she lives in a condo unit, she opts for small plants such as cacti and succulents. Not only do they fit limited spaces, but they are also relatively cheaper and build confidence among growers when they sprout.
Join a plant community
Solo homemaker Cooky Araneta urges her fellow plantitas to get into a plant community and socialize with other plant owners to get more information about growing, taking care, and using plants to decorate a space.
Start cultivating herbs and vegetables
Aside from filling the house with big, leafy, aesthetically-pleasing greens, these plant lovers advise cultivating herbs and vegetables, too. Seed Starter MNL offers Salad (basil, tomato, kale, lettuce), Herb (basil, chives, parsley, arugula), or Sunflower seedlings, as well as coco pots, soil, seeding tray, plant box, label sticks, mini tools, and a booklet guide.
