Aboitiz InfraCapital Inc. said Tuesday it is spending P2.5 billion this year to build more telco towers nationwide.

“For 2021, we’ve allocated around P2.5 billion for capex [capital expenditures] to build telco towers, and we’re currently negotiating and finalizing technical and commercial designs with the telcos,” InfraCapital president and chief executive Cosette Canilao said in a virtual briefing.

Aboitiz Infra secured separate deals with Globe Telecom Inc. and DITO Telecommunity Corp. for the deployment of small cell sites to boost network capacity and coverage. Under separate lease agreements, the two telcos deployed small cells across Aboitiz InfraCapital’s pole network in Cebu and Davao.

A small cell network is a series of small low-powered, short-ranged antennas that provide coverage and capacity, meant to work in conjunction with macro cell towers.
