DAR pooling lands for landless farmers

The Department of Agrarian Reform is pooling all its effort to provide landless farmers with their own land to till and provide them with the support “so that agriculture would be revitalized and sustain food security in the country.”

Secretary John Castriciones says President Rodrigo Duterte recognizes the importance of agriculture and that the DAR, being one of the government agencies responsible for boosting agriculture in the country, has signified his all-out support to the agency.

“Our President ordered us to distribute all idle government-owned land all over the country to empower our farmers and make the agriculture sector become stronger,” he said.

He encouraged the children of farmer-beneficiaries to take up a four-year course in agriculture since DAR is giving a maximum of three hectares of land to the agriculture graduates so that they could apply their knowledge on making their lands productive.

“We provide insurance to our farmers’ crops and provide them with credit facilities. We have a housing project to ensure that they will live in a comfortable environment, we provide them with various support services that will strengthen them and eventually make our agriculture globally competitive because we are an agricultural country,” he said.

According to Castriciones, farming is an “honorable” job because the farmers are the ones that put food on everyone’s table.
