Olsim impressive in debut with submission win of Mazar

If Jenelyn Olsim was facing any pressure in her much-awaited ONE Championship debut, she certainly didn't show it.

Olsim came into the Singapore Indoor Stadium looking to steal the thunder from fifth-ranked strawweight Maira Mazar and she did exactly that, scoring an impressive third-round modified guillotine choke victory at the previously recorded ONE: FISTS OF FURY III, which aired on Friday, March 19.

From the onset, Olsim looked fantastic as she waited for Mazar to come forward and landed beautiful on-point counters.

She rocked Mazar a couple of times, staggering her Brazilian foe just when she was looking for a takedown and then popping her with a straight right midway through the first round.

It was pretty much the same story in the second, as she looked a step ahead of Mazar, countering beautifully while having answers to the Evolve MMA representative's wrestling.

The Team Lakay star's impressive showing in the first two rounds turned out to be the prelude to a sensational finish.

Olsim got the job done early in the third round, as she caught Mazar in a standing guillotine choke while clinching.

Mazar forced a takedown, but just when she turned to get a better position, the choke only deepened, forcing her to submit at the 41-second mark of the final round to give Olsim a breakthrough win.

The win was a big one for Olsim. Not only did she leave a lasting impression, she also put herself in the mix of the strawweight division after beating a vet like Mazar.

It wasn’t a perfect night for Filipinos though as Aziz “The Krauser” Claim fell to ”The Indian Notorious” Roshan Mainam earlier in the night.

Mainam’s grappling was too much for the Filipino-Indonesian, as he took Calim down midway through the first round, got his back, and put on a rear-naked choke to finish off the Han Fighting Academy representative at the 2:45 mark of the first round.

In the card’s headliners, Regian “The Immortal” Eersal retained his ONE Lightweight Kickboxing World Title by scoring a unanimous decision win over Mustapha “Dynamite” Haida, while ONE Atomweight Kickboxing World Champion Janet “JT” Todd secured a unanimous decision victory over Alma Juniku in a three-round Muay Thai contest.
