The Association of Philippine Electric Cooperatives said Wednesday suspending the no-disconnection policy indefinitely may do more harm than good.
“Eventually, it [no disconnection policy] will redound to the detriment of our economy,” APEC Party-List Rep. Sergio Dagooc said.
Legislators continued to ask power utilities to indefinitely prolong the no-disconnection policy to give consumers more time to pay their electricity bills.
Dagooc said if a distribution utility or an electric cooperative failed to pay their obligations to their suppliers such as the generating companies, the latter would not be able to pay their maturing obligations and would be unable to buy fuel or feedstock. He said if generating companies were unable to procure their fuel or feedstock, the economy will definitely be affected.
