The Philippine Economic Zone Authority commended Tuesday the Bureau of Customs for the immediate apprehension of shipment containing smuggled cigarettes, allegedly bound to a PEZA-registered enterprise in Cavite.

“We thank BOC for their immediate action on their discovery. We at PEZA do not tolerate violations by a PEZA-registered enterprise to custom rules and regulations. PEZA has already issued a show cause order to the said company and is conducting its own investigation on the incident,” said PEZA director-general Charito Plaza.

The Manila International Container Port apprehended on Jan. 18 two-by-forty-foot containers of undeclared cigarettes allegedly bound to the First Cavite Industrial Estate Special Economic Zone.

Based on preliminary investigations, the shipment which came from China was consigned to YJC International Corp., a PEZA-registered export enterprise.
