The suspect in the murder of Cebu lawyer Joey Luis Wee has been arrested and is now in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Wednesday.
He said he was informed on Tuesday that “a certain Peralta” was tracked down and arrested in Laguna. He said details would follow.
Wee was shot outside his office in broad daylight in Cebu City on Nov. 23. He was killed less than a week after another lawyer, Eric Jay Magcamit of Palawan, was gunned down while on his way to a hearing.
Nine suspects, including a policeman, have been arrested and face criminal complaints over Magcamit’s death.
More than 50 lawyers, judges and prosecutors have been killed since President Rodrigo Duterte assumed office in 2016.
