The Presidential Commission for the Urban Poor vows to continue the operation of its health caravan throughout Metro Manila and to go to other parts of the country until the end of December.
Chairman and Chief Executive Alvin Feliciano said the caravan started on Oct. 15 in connection with this year’s celebration of the Urban Poor Solidarity Week in which the field operations divisions in the National Capital Region, Luzon, the Visayas and Mindanao would share various orientations.
“Apart from training and seminars, the Commission also distributes health kits containing face masks, face shields and gallons of alcohol. The purpose of this campaign is to spread the right information about COVID-19 to the poor communities,” Feliciano said.
The program aims to make the poor sector more aware and knowledgeable about what to do to avoid getting sick or contracting COVID-19.
“The PCUP is aware that our urban poor sector community is the most affected by the spread of the COVID-19 virus. That is why it is important to disseminate information to prevent or mitigate the impact of the virus on their community,” Feliciano said.
“The commission is also ready to liaise with other sectors and organizations so that not only health kits will be distributed to every caravan especially now that many are affected by the typhoon.”
A total of 11,786 beneficiaries were distributed by the caravan.
In Metro Manila there were 3,900 and Luzon had 386 beneficiaries.
The Visayas had 4,482 and Mindanao had recorded 2,400 participants.
