Quezon City Rep. Alfred Vargas has launched PWeDe!, a program for persons with disabilities (PWDs) designed to support livelihood centers offering capital programs and providing wheelchairs and hearing aids to those with special needs.
Senior graduating students with disabilities could also be granted financial aid through Vargas’ “Pantawid Graduation” program, while skills development and leadership trainings for both youth and the adults would be organized, he said.
“It’s time to empower PWDs who have long suffered from neglect through the help of PWeDe! We would want to the PWDs the opportunities to reach their dreams, to gainfully work, to finish their studies and to have a better life. Because in the end, PWEDE! naman talaga kung magtutulungan lang tayo,” he said.
PWeDe! was launched last Aug. 22 coinciding with the birthday of Vargas’ late mother, lawyer Susana Vargas, who succumbed to cancer in 2014.
“PWeDe! is now here to help provide development opportunities that empower our PWDs so that, together, we can create a more inclusive society,” the lawmaker said.
