As national athletes await the green light to resume training, they need to take advantage of opportunities that they have while undergoing home quarantine,

That's because the medical scientific athletes services (MSAS) of the Philippine Sports Commission will be there answer to their needs.

PSC chairman William Ramirez said this as the agency and many national sports associations wait for the green light from the Interagency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases.

“There are opportunities because these athletes are focused on their training and exposure, and some of them get injured. Dapat maayos nila ito,” said Ramirez during a Facebook Live interview last Saturday.

The MSAS, according to Ramirez, has been addressing the needs of athletes in terms of nutrition, psychological counseling, strength and conditioning, and others.

And they have been consulting with many athletes online.

The medical and scientific team of the MSAS is composed of Dr. Randolph Mayo, Dr. Janis de Vera, Dr. Charles Corpuz, Dr. Joji Quintos, Dr. Pilar Villanueva, Dr. Victor Gaddi, Dr. Arsenio Lantin, Dr. William Occidental, Dr. Raul Alcantara, and Abigail Rivera.

The agency is prioritizing the needs of national athletes who are seeking to qualify for the Tokyo Olympics amid the lockdowns meant to stop the spread of the coronavirus pandemic.

The allowances of the national team and the coaches may have been reduced. But officials assured that this is just temporary.
