What to expect

"With Duterte – the unexpected, of course!"

People expect many things from the President’s fifth State-of-the-Nation Address later today. He will do it before a limited crowd of legislators at the Batasan.

For sure, he will talk about what his administration is doing in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Here in our country, the number of cases continues to surge, my gulay!

Recall what he said if cases hit the 85,000 mark. Considering the fact that most of the cases are in the National Capital Region, he may revert to a Modified Enhanced Community Quarantine. We all know what that means. But are the people ready for it?

The President promised he would come up with a road map for our economic recovery, at least as far as employment, livelihood and investment are concerned.

I wonder where we will get the funding for the Build Build Build program given that we are government is scrounging to raise money to fight the pandemic. Indeed, COVID-19 is Duterte’s greatest challenge!

I have a few questions, though.

Will Mr. Duterte claim that his war on illegal drugs has been successful? What will he say about the other war – government corruption?

What about the reported anomalies at PhilHealth? Also, the probe on the Bilibid inmates starts today. What can we expect from that?

Will he talk about dismantling the oligarchy without resorting to martial law?

Duterte’s Sonas are always interesting because he has a penchant for saying things. Just sit back – and expect the unexpected, Santa Banana!

A good question if and when the President reimposes MECQ on Metro Manila is, what will it mean in terms of the activities that have slowly been permitted – masses in church, dining in at restaurants, and the like?

My hope is that we can find a vaccine and cure soon to end this chastisement from God. This is what the Mother of God said during her apparitions – that there would be chastisement because of the sins of mankind.

Duterte should insist on the need for discipline.

Just watch television and see for yourself people walking around, unmindful of social distancing and other protocols. Some don’t even wear masks!

The bright boys of the Lopez-owned ABS-CBN network have come up with the idea of launching a people’s initiative. This is their resort after Congress denied its application to renew its franchise. Obviously inspired by the Social Weather Stations survey that three out of four Filipinos want the franchise renewed, the Lopezes are hoping they can generate support from at least 10 percent of the total number of voters and at least three percent of every legislative district.

Do the Lopezes still have that kind of money? That move will cost them billions!

Well, they can always dream.

The decision of Education Secretary Leonor Brioners to have face-to-face classes in public schools in low-risk areas is a bad idea. Why do we need to expose our children at an early age to this health hazard?

Who can ensure that so-called low-risk areas are really safe? Now we are hearing the virus may be airborne.

Both the national and local governments have the responsibility to provide children with tools so that they continue learning without being exposed to the virus!
