Pasig, QC, Manila top COVID-19 response

Pasig City, Quezon City, and Manila topped a COVID-19 Performance Survey among local government units (LGUs) in the national capital region, where nearly 13 million people live, according to a survey released this week.

The independent, non-commissioned survey was conducted by RP-Mission and Development Foundation Inc. (RPMDinc) and used face-to-face interviews and had 3,000 respondents, who were asked to rather their respective mayors and city governments during the coronavirus pandemic.

Eighty-six percent of Pasig residents approve of the way their Mayor and City Government are responding to and addressing the COVID-19 pandemic.

The second to the fifth-highest job approval ratings were registered among residents of Quezon City (80 percent), Manila (78 percent), Marikina (74 percent), and Valenzuela (72 percent).

The mayors of the top-performing LGUs, whose names were listed on the survey forms answered by respondents, were Vico Sotto (Pasig), Joy Belmonte (Quezon City), Isko Moreno Domagoso (Manila), Marcy Teodoro (Marikina), and Rex Gatchalian (Valenzuela).

Dr. Paul Martinez of RPMDinc said “the survey was conducted with the intention to reassess the efforts done by the LGUs and its (sic) officials amid the Corona Virus pandemic, the public’s reactions towards the leadership, management of local chief executives;

“Assessment of the effectiveness of the following initiatives: security and public order; welfare of residents through relief goods, financial assistance and distribution; establishment of health protocols & security measures in the city; food security (hoarding prevention; supply of basic necessities and monitoring of prices); efficiency of the efforts being implemented.”

The lowest approval ratings were recorded in Pasay City (25 percent), Las Piñas City (26 percent) and Malabon City (27 percent).

The respondents of the survey that ran from June 10-15, 2020 were registered voters and all residents of Metro Manila, aged 18 to 70. They were randomly chosen and the number of respondents per city was distributed proportionally based on official population data.
