In celebration of this year’s Earth Day on April 22, Discovery launches a campaign that encourages everyone to take action for the planet’s future even while at home.
The #ActNow@Home urges individuals to do their part to address climate change. Individuals can share their efforts and challenge their friends to do the same by posting photo or video pledges on social media with the hashtag #ActNow@Home and #WorldIsOurs.
BamBike founder Bryan McClelland and 2016 Pearl of the Philippines first runner-up Sade Nicha pledge to fight for a sustainable future.
Filipino-American social entrepreneur McClelland, through his socio-ecological enterprise, works with community members of Gawad Kalinga workers to build bicycles made of bamboo.
“Bamboo may very well be the most useful plant on the planet,” he says in his video pledge. “It is one of our most important tools to mitigate climate change.”
Meanwhile, eco warrior Nicha plants her own fruits and herbs as she believes that it helps in lessening her use of plastics compared to when she buys them from the market.
“We can never reach total zero waste, but that is no reason to create zero action,” says the beauty queen.
