A group of local liquor manufacturers asked the national government and local government units to lift the ban on the sale and purchase of liquor during the enhanced community quarantine period in Luzon.

“We appeal collectively to lift the total ban imposed nationwide on the purchase and sale of alcoholic beverages,” the Center for Alcohol Research and Development Foundation Inc. said in a letter to Trade Secretary Ramon Lopez.

CARD Foundation Inc. chairman Gerardo Tan Tee, who is also the chairman of Absolut Distillers Inc., said while the alcohol beverage Industry acknowledges that public health and safety has always been the primordial concern of the government, the total ban “effectively drives out the industry from the market and unduly forfeits the capital which had already been invested in the products already produced and bottled for distribution to the market but were prohibited for sale.”
