The Manila City Council has passed a resolution suspending the payment of rent for all market vendors and stall owners in view of the enhanced community quarantine due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The resolution was drafted and passed following the appeal of Mayor Francisco “Isko Moreno” Domagoso to alleviate the effect of the pandemic on the city’s market vendors and stallholders.

Under Resolution No. 85 series of 2020, the City Council granted the suspension of payment of rent for market stallholders for the duration of the quarantine.

“(The City Council) grants a moratorium to all market stallholders within the City of Manila, whether public or privatized, from paying their rents for the duration of the enhanced community quarantine due to the coronavirus disease (COVID-19),” the resolution read.

The council agreed with the Mayor’s appeal that the suspension of payment will mitigate the impact of the declaration of enhanced community quarantine on their business operations.
