Lakas-CMD beefs up muscle to regain lead role

Ahead of the 2020 elections, the Lakas-Christian Muslim Democrat party is beefing up its ranks and accepting back its former party-mates, according to Majority Leader and Leyte Rep. Martin Romualdez.

Gina de Venecia, Senator Bong Revilla Jr., Secretary General and Deputy Speaker Rep. Prospero Pichay Jr. and other ranking members flash the thumbs-up signs during the get together at Sampaguita Gardens in Quezon City.  Ver Noveno

“Our team is in the process of rebuilding Lakas-CMD and we will just have to win them back again,” he said.

The dominant party during the Arroyo administration met in Quezon City last Monday, with former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo and former Speaker Jose de Venecia in attendance.

Arroyo is the Lakas-CMD president emeritus, while Romualdez is the Lakas-CMD president.

Those present were Surigao del Sur Rep. Prospero Pichay, Quezon Rep. Aleta Suarez, Lapu-Lapu City Rep. Paz Radaza, Lanao del Sur Rep. Yasser Balindong, Misamis Oriental Rep. Christian Unabia, Catanduanes Rep. Hector Sanchez, Southern Leyte Rep. Roger Mercado and Pangasinan Rep. Christopher de Venecia.

The  former House Speaker called on the other Lakas-CMD lawmakers to take the lead in strengthening the party and make sure that it would take a leadership role in the 2022 elections.  

“We are proud and happy to say that Lakas-NUCD-UMDP, now Lakas-CMD, is already 28 years old and had led our country for 15 years:  Six years under President [Fidel] Ramos and nine years under President Arroyo. We can be proud of our achievements,” he said.
