UAAP will hold Junior Basketball Finals Game 2 in San Juan behind closed doors

For health reasons, the University Athletic Association of the Philippines has decided that Game 2 of the junior basketball finals will be played behind closed doors when it is played today at Fil-Oil Flying V Sports Centre in San Juan City.

Season 82 President Em Fernandez said this is a precautionary measure.

“The health and safety of our players, coaches and fans is paramount,” said Fernandez, who added that they are coordinating with the Department of Health, the City of San Juan and their venue partners on the current situation concerning the coronavirus outbreak.

So far, the Department of Health (DOH) reported two additional confirmed cases of the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in the Philippines, bringing the total of COVID-19 cases in the country to five.

 The fifth case is known to have regularly visited a Muslim prayer hall in Barangay Greenhills, San Juan City.

Coming off a one-month break, the National University-Nazareth School Bullpups crushed Far Eastern University-Diliman, 79-61, to move closer to the title last Friday.

The Bullpups outscored their foes in the third quarter, 24-12, to blow the game wide open entering the payoff period, 67-48.

Gerry Abadiano’s trey at the 7:18 mark of the fourth frame gave NU its biggest lead of the game at 25, 76-51.

The Bulldogs he early in the game, needed a slow start, and fell behind by 14 at the start, 17-3, before Terrence Fortea led the fightback to enter halftime ahead, 43-36.

Fortea topped NU with 24 points on 50 percent shooting while Abadiano backstopped him with 14 markers, seven rebounds, and four assists.
