Electrification program powers Caloocan village

The city government of Caloocan and the Manila Electric Co. held a Switching Ceremony for the MERALCO’s Community Electrification Program in Barangay 178 before the weekend.

Caloocan Mayor Oscar Malapitan attended the event with Rep. Along Malapitan, City Administrator Oliver Hernandez and top Meralco officials at the Agape Court.

The Meralco Electrification Program supports the Department of Energy’s 2016-2030 strategic direction to intensify its electrification access by 100% to Meralco’s franchise areas.

According to Meralco, the MEP project started on September 12, 2019 after a joint survey between the Meralco and the informal settlers or poor beneficiaries for the design of the circuit.

Groundbreaking was held last Dec. 19, 2019 and was completed on Dec. 30, ready to provide electrification to the residents in Bahay-Bukid.

At least 34 electric poles were installed, including three distribution transformers, and more than 800 meters of power lines.

Malapitan said the project will benefit more of the city’s residents.

“A lot more people in our city will benefit for the long run from the good projects that we promote,” the mayor said.
