Limay, BataanӉۢCouncilor Mel Fernando said this town has intensified its drive against illegal fishing.

“We have a municipal fish sanctuary that we are strictly guarding,” the councilor said Wednesday.

Fernando was in the Limay Seaborne Patrol headquarters giving instructions to patrollers and asking updates on the anti-illegal fishing drive.

“The Seaborne Patrol is organized again by Mayor Nelson David with our support from the Sangguniang Bayan headed by our Vice Mayor Richie David,” he said.

“Lamao Seaborne Patrol is also being put up,” Fernando added.

“Ever since, I have instructed patrollers not to accept fish from fishermen so as not to be mistaken of receiving bribes,” he said.

The patrollers reported to the councilor that 12 boats were caught fishing in the sanctuary in two weeks.

Fernando was vice mayor of Limay from 2004 to 2010. He was councilor from 1995 to 2004, and from 2016 to present.
