Transport companies operating at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport on Thursday asked the airport management to grant a parking space at their offices for the safety of drivers.

The group composed of Alamo Transport, New Horizon Transport Service Inc., Miatsc Air Transport, People’s Network Transport, Enterprise Car Lease Phils Inc. (Nissan), and Airport Shuttle Service Inc. appealed to Manila International Airport Authority general manager Eddie Monreal for the retention of parking slots provided to them.

MIAA officials earlier decided to relocate the transport concessionaires parking slots from NAIA Terminal Car Park 2 to Aviation Support Industrial Area 2 situated at the former Nayong Pilipino complex.

The airport management came up with the decision because it is planning to use and develop the Car Park 2 into a public pay parking.

“We are grateful that the MIAA provided us with new parking slots for our units. But, we are appealing for a little consideration to retain parking slots fronting our respective offices for reasons that it will be utilized as temporary parking areas of our transport units remitting income from the four NAIA terminals,” the transport group said in a statement.

“It’s too risky for our drivers who will walk some 20 meters from the new parking slot to our old offices just to remit the daily income, especially at night, dawn time, as well as rainy days,” said Romy Sayaman, Airport Shuttle Service Inc., chairman and president.

“The most important thing is the safety of our drivers who were carrying cash, that is why we badly need a parking area infront of our offices,” he added.

The transport group said their drivers remit more or less P100,000 of income daily, while others have remitted more than a hundred thousand pesos daily.
