Jomary “The Zamboanginian Fighter” Torres believes that there is indeed a light at the end of the tunnel – and she sees that light at the Mall Of Asia Arena.

'The 24-year-old Zamboanga Del Norte native returns to the ONE Championship Circle this Friday, 31 January, when she takes on Jenny “Lady GoGo” Huang at ONE: FIRE & FURY in Manila, Philippines.

Torres, currently on a four-bout skid, believes she is coming in as an underdog, a position she believes suits her well.

“It’s such a huge honor to face a former World Title challenger. I know we’ve both come from losses, but I feel like I am still the underdog heading to this bout in the Philippines,” Torres said.

“I’m so motivated to win. I know that I cannot afford to lose anymore. So I’ll show my eagerness to win and prove that I can still hang with a formidable opponent like Huang.”

The question will be whether Torres, who holds a 4-4 record, can handle Huang’s polished game, which has been hardened by battles against the top contenders of the division.

But “Lady GoGo” is also on a five-match losing streak herself. Her losses, however, came from top athletes such as Mei “V.V” YamaguchiJihin “Shadow Cat” RadzuanGina “Conviction” Iniong, and ONE Atomweight World Champion “Unstoppable” Angela Lee.

Though Huang might hold a distinct advantage in experience, Torres believes she has a puncher’s chance if she keeps the match standing.

“I am aware of Huang’s talent, and honestly, I don’t see any weakness in her game. But I am confident that I can hang with her in this fight,” Torres said.

“I’m planning to force her to trade strikes with me. That’s where I feel like I have a bigger chance of winning. If this match goes to the ground, I’ll just have to find ways to get to a dominant position.”

Amid her struggles, “The Zamboanginian Fighter” is grateful to be in a position where she has a chance to end her slump. She plans to take full advantage of it on Friday.

“Despite my losses, I’m thankful that ONE Championship never gave up on me. Now it’s up to me to get that win and bounce back from my struggles,” Torres said.

“It’s not going to be easy. Jenny Huang is a very experienced athlete, but as long as I come in confident and I hear my countrymen cheering for me, I think I can get that win on Friday.”

Torres looks to end her slump when she takes on Huang on the lead card of ONE: FIRE & FURY on 31 January at the Mall Of Asia Arena in Manila, Philippines.

The lead card begins on FacebookTwitterYouTube, and the ONE Super App at 5:30pm Philippine Standard Time (PHT).

To watch the main card, tune-in to ABS-CBN S+A or iWant at 8:30pm PHT.
