Lady Altas, Junior Altas spinners eye NCAA crown versus San Beda bets

The Perpetual Lady Altas and Junior Altas spinners attempting to make history when they face the defending champion San Beda University ping pong team on Thursday at the Emilio Aguinaldo College Sports Center in Ermita.

The Las Pinas City-based women’s team composed of Chrisien Mae Santillan, Keziahbien Ablaza, Patrica Luca, Trisha May Plurad, Zada Marie Bocala and charmaine Glorioso of Jun Glorioso and Kirby Colis will face seven-straight champ SBU in an effort to win their first-ever crown in the women’s division of the National collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 Table Tennis Championship.

On the other hand, the Junior Atlas table netters will try to shoot  for the title for a second time after the post-James Diocareza following a loss in the finals to San Beda in Season 95, before the league was temporarily suspended due to the Covid -19 pandemic.

The Lady Altas and Junior Altalettes clinched the first finals berth after defeating EAC Lady General and ICA-Brigadiers, respectively, in the semis via a 3-0 score.

SBU, which hold a twice-to-beat edge in the finals, defeated the St. Benilde Lady Blazers in the other women’s semis.

On the other hand, the Red Cubs nipped Jose Rizal University in the junior semis.

The Lady Altas of team owner Dr. Tony Tamayo finished the elims with a 3-1 win loss card in a 5-team tournament composed of Perpetual Help, San Beda, St. Benilde, EAC and Mapua.

The Junior Altas composed of Gabriel Amata, 

Russel Luna, Gerald Aguilar, James Michael Crom, Jheyron Valenzuela and Ian Tablang ended up as topnotcher in the elims of the high school division with 5 wins and zero loss in a six-team field. 

Other teams are College of St. Benilde men’s team 5-0, SBU 4-1, Mapua 2-3, JRU 1-4, EAC 0-5.
