ABOUT 30 percent of adult Filipinos believed that their lives improved over the past 12 months, according to a recent poll conducted by the Social Weather Stations (SWS).

The survey, conducted on Dec. 8-11, 2023, showed that 30 percent of adult Filipinos said they experienced quality of life was better,  while 25 percent asserted it got worse, and 45 percent said it remained the same.

The SWS said this resulted in a net gainer score of +5  which was computed by subtracting the percentage of losers from gainers and was classified as “very high”.

The pollster classified gainers as those who believed their lives improved, while losers were classified as those who believed their lives worsened.

The December 2023 net gainer score was 7 points above the fair -2 in September 2023 but 6 points below the very high plus 11 in June 2023,  the pollster noted.

The seven-point rise in the nationwide net gainer score between September 2023 and December 2023 was due to increases in Metro Manila and the Visayas, combined with a slight increase in Balance Luzon and a steady score in Mindanao.

In Metro Manila, net gainers rose from “high” to “very high”, up by 25 points from -9 to +16.

The net gainer score stayed “high” in Balance Luzon, up by 3 point from +3 to +6.

The net gainer score in Mindanao stayed fair , barely moving from -4 to -3
