TRANSPORTATION Secretary Jaime Bautista welcomes the appointment of Eric Jose Castro Ines as the new general manager of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA).

According to Bautista, Ines is qualified for the position because of his experience as an airport station manager of Etihad Airways and Gulf Air in Manila from March 1, 2006, to Dec. 31, 2017, and from July 1, 1997, to Feb. 28, 2006, respectively.

“He is very qualified for the job, he has a lot of experience. I already talked to him and he is preparing for his oath-taking,” Bautista said.

A transmittal letter addressed to Bautista and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin on Dec. 15, 2023, stated that Ines was appointed by President Marcos to replace former MIAA chief Cesar Chiong.

The MIAA is an attached agency of the Department of Transportation (DOTr)..

Ines was a Bachelor of Arts graduate of the University of the Philippines. He finished Airport and Airline Management and Aviation Security course at the Bailbrook College, School of Aviation in England.

He was also a senior security officer of Gulf Air both in Manila and Southeast Asia from Jan. 1, 1988, to June 30, 1997, and a trainee for airline operations of the same company from Oct. 1, 1986, to Dec. 1, 1987.

Ines also served as the Senior Executive Assistant to the Secretary of the Department of Local Government and Community Development from April 1, 1973 to March 31, 1986.

The MIAA recently completed its Schedule and Terminal Assignment Rationalization, or STAR program, aimed at optimizing the capacity of the four NAIA terminals. This program entailed the reassignment of some international airlines from Terminal 1 to Terminal 3 and the moving of all Philippine Airlines international flights to Terminal 1.
