Huawei ICT Competition winners named

HUAWEI Philippines concluded the Huawei ICT Competition 2023-2024 on December 15, announcing the winning teams set to compete in the coming regional round.

This year’s competition proved to be an exceptional platform for ICT talent and expertise, boasting participation from 583 students representing 47 schools for the cloud, network, and computing tracks, and 57 students from 11 different academies for the innovation track.

In the network track, Bulacan State University emerged as the champion, while the first runner-up position was secured by Batangas University TNEU.

Southville International Schools and Colleges’ team claimed the championship in the cloud category. The University of the East – Caloocan’s team came in second place.

In the computing track, Information and Communications Technology Academy Inc. (iAcademy) secured the championship, while the National University—Manila took the first runner-up position. 

Supporting women in tech and advocating for a more inclusive and diverse society in a call to increase women’s participation in the ICT sector and the digital economy, Huawei Philippines also gave a special recognition to an all-female team from Bulacan State University.

The Top 5 finalists for the innovation track have also been announced. The selected teams were as follows: Team WEI Care from Cebu Institute of Technology University, Team iSight from MAPUA University, Team Farmify from Davao Central Colleges, Team Juancard from Bulacan State University, and Team KumaTechnologies from ICCT Colleges.

Each champion from the respective categories will represent the Philippines overseas at the regional level next year. The Huawei ICT Competition aims to foster healthy competition among students, facilitating the exchange of ideas while enhancing ICT knowledge, practical skills, and innovation using modern technologies and platforms.

Wu Ling, Strategy Director of Huawei Asia Pacific ICT Academy Program, emphasized Huawei’s commitment to nurturing talent, stating, “Huawei is fully dedicated to cultivating talent and sharing our technologies and experiences.”

“In 2013, we launched Huawei ICT Academy cooperation program which brings industry requirements, cutting edge ICT knowledge and skills to the colleges and universities to share the latest ICT course and practices, to help students and teachers to grow up with the rapidly evolving technological advances and therefore building up a talent ecosystem,” he further added.

This initiative aims to address the digital skills gap and promote sustainable development through leveraging information and communications technology.

Andrei Manuel, Talent Ecosystem Manager of Huawei Technologies Philippines, emphasized the essential role of technology and talent in constructing a resilient ICT talent ecosystem, stating, “Technology is the root and talent is the foundation in order to build a robust ICT talent ecosystem.”
