‘Firefly’ lights up the big screens this Yuletide season

GMA Network is throwing its full weight behind the new drama-adventure film, Firefly, helmed by Zig Dulay. 

The film, which is a collaborative effort between GMA Pictures and GMA Public Affairs, promises a heartwarming journey filled with nostalgia and wonder this Christmas as an official entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival.

Dulay, known for his work on acclaimed projects like Maria Clara at Ibarra, Paglipay, and Black Rainbow, brings his unique storytelling vision to Firefly. His meticulous direction is poised to breathe life into this coming-of-age tale, capturing the essence of childhood dreams and the enduring power of family bonds.

Backing Dulay is a stellar team of industry veterans, each contributing their expertise to the film’s creation. Angel Atienza, the brains behind award-winning GMA Public Affairs programs, pens the heartfelt story and screenplay. Rody Vera, celebrated for his work in gems like Die Beautiful and Goyo, lends his guidance as a script adviser. Meanwhile, Neil Daza, known for capturing the magic of Dekada ‘70 and Fan Girl, paints the film with stunning visuals.

Firefly boasts an exceptional ensemble cast, led by Alessandra de Rossi and the promising young talent Euwenn Mikaell. Dingdong Dantes adds his charisma in a special appearance, while Ysabel Ortega and Miguel Tanfelix bring youthful energy to the screen. Senior actors Cherry Pie Picache and Epy Quizon round out the impressive cast.

The film follows the journey of a young boy, Tonton, who embarks on a magical quest to find the mythical island his mother described in bedtime stories. Set against the backdrop of 1999, this adventure becomes a poignant exploration of childhood wonder, the power of promises, and the enduring love between parent and child.

Firefly screens in cinemas nationwide on Dec. 25.
