PetroWind Energy Inc. (PWEI) said over the weekend it started with the erection of turbines for the second phase of the Nabas wind power project in Nabas-Malay, Aklan that will increase its energy production to 50 megawatts from 36 MW.
PWEI is a joint venture among PetroGreen Energy Corp., EEI Power Corp. and BCPG Wind Cooperatief U.A., an affiliate of BCPG Public Company Limited, Thailand.
PGEC and EEI Power are affiliates of the Yuchengco Group of Companies.
“The commencement of this project underscores our commitment to help address the growing demand for power in the Visayas grid while fostering sustainable development in the countryside and long-term partnerships with our stakeholders,” said PGEC senior manager for environment and community relations manager Yrel Ventura.
The Nabas 2 wind project started construction in March that would add six wind turbine generators alongside the 18 wind turbines of Phase 1, thus fulfilling its commitment to supply clean and renewable energy to the Visayas grid.
PWEI said it secured permits from the Department of Energy, Department of Environment and Natural Resources and other national regulatory agencies prior to the construction of Phase 2.
The project also received approval from its host barangays and local government units through endorsements and clearances.
PWEI signed a P1.8-billion loan agreement with state-run Development Bank of the Philippines in February to finance the construction of the Nabas-2 wind power.
The Nabas-2 wind project won the Visayas wind allocation during the Green Energy Auction Program conducted by the Department of Energy in June 2022. The project is targeted for completion by the second quarter of 2024.
