The Rain or Shine Elasto Painters are all set to play with DaJuan Summers, one of three new imports in the 48th Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup at the Philsports Arena.
Coach Yeng Guiao finds the 35-year-old Summers a perfect fit for his team when the Elasto Painters take on the Meralco Bolts at 6 p.m.
“I’m very positive with the abilities of our import. Tingin ko, tamang-tamang fit siya sa team,” said Guiao, who looks forward to having the Elasto Painters reach the quarterfinal round.
Summers, who is the oldest among the imports, has managed to blend in with the rest of the squad, which includes two other rookies taken from the draft, Sherwin Concepcion and Keith Datu.
The 6’8” Summers played 83 games over four seasons with the Detroit Pistons, who drafted him in the second round in 2009. He also had stints with the Hornets and Clippers.
Another experienced import in Suleiman Braimoh will compete against Summers, who replaced the Bolts’ original choice Feron Hunt.
The 34-year-old Hunt has seen action in four seasons at Rice University in the US NCAA and has had stints in the D-League, New Zealand, Japan, Qatar, Germany, Israel and France.
In the first game, the Converge FiberXers will be ready with returning import Tom Vodanovich when they battle the Blackwater Elite Bossings at 4 p.m.
Vodanovich played only one game in the last Governors’ Cup, after he came in for for Jamaal Franklin in a quarterfinal contest where the FiberXers were eliminated by the San Miguel Beermen. Peter Atencio
The Elite Bossings will have Chris Ortiz, a 6’8” cager, who recently suited up for Puerto Rico in the FIBA World Cup.
Ortiz impressed coach Jeffrey Cariaso with his averages 7.2 points and 2.4 rebounds during the World Cup.
