THE Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) on Tuesday inaugurated the Tripa de Gallina Neighborhood Upgrading Project in Barangay San Isidro, providing residents of Makati City and Pasay City a new recreational area.

The project, which spans around 881 linear meters of Estero Tripa de Gallina, features a park with various amenities, including playground sets, exercise equipment, and vegetable beds.

The park will serve as a model for future developments of the waterway under the Tripa de Gallina urban renewal initiative.

MMDA chairman Romando  Artes said the project aims to promote a safe environment, improve public health and quality of life, sustain interest and effect positive behavioral change in keeping the waterways free of garbage and other trash, encourage community participation in community-based sewerage management practices, and deter illegal encroachments and further deterioration of communities along the waterways.

“We have also provided barangay outposts and steel gates for the security of parkgoers. Also, we have installed colorful LED lights at the railings and the dual power solar/electrical LED bollard lighting fixtures to beautify the nightscape,” he said.

Pasay City Mayor Imelda Rubiano expressed her support for the agency’s programs and projects in protecting the environment.

Maintenance of the linear park will be turned over to the local government of Makati City and the Barangay officials of San Isidro. Makati City Vice Mayor Lagdameo is committed to maintaining and taking care of the park.

The neighborhood upgrading project is part of the World Bank-funded flood management project by MMDA, aimed at reducing solid waste in Metro Manila’s waterways.
