NEDA okays P269.7-b infra projects

The National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board approved 10 new infrastructure projects worth P269.7 billion, Socioeconomic Planning Secretary Arsenio Balisacan said on Friday.

During a Palace briefing, Balisacan said the approved projects will boost the country’s health and transport sector while promoting green economy initiatives.

“With these approved projects, the Marcos administration reaffirms its commitment to aggressively advance infrastructure development to attain our medium-term development goals of more high-quality jobs and better lives for all Filipinos,” Balisacan said.

President Marcos sits as chairman of the NEDA Board.

One of the approved projects is the upgrade and expansion of the Bohol-Panglao International Airport which will increase the airport’s maximum passenger capacity from 2.5 million to 3.9 million passengers per year.

Another item in the pipeline is the Dialysis Center Project of the Baguio General Hospital and Medical Center which will make hemodialysis treatment more accessible and affordable for patients in Baguio City and surrounding areas.

The NEDA Board also approved the Green Economy Program that will help the national government, local government units, and the private sector mainstream green economy activities, such as reducing waste and pollution, and increasing energy efficiency and renewable energy deployment.

Other projects okayed by the NEDA Board include the changes to the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge and Cebu Bus Rapid Transit projects to accommodate an updated detailed engineering design that utilizes superior construction materials and a stronger bridge structure as well as to account for inflation.

The NEDA Board previously approved the University of the Philippines-Philippine General Hospital (UP-PGH) Cancer Center and the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) PPP projects which are currently undergoing the bidding process.
