HANGZHOU—A visibly struggling Margielyn Didal saw her title slip away as she placed last in the women’s street skateboarding finals of the 19th Asian Games at the QT Roller Sports center here on Tuesday.
Still bothered by her surgically-repaired left ankle, Didal was a shadow of her old self as she completed her 1st run with a low 23.39 points. In her second run, Didal slid off her board and restarted an attempt that netted an even dismal 12.83 score.
The 24-year-old Didal eventually failed to complete any of her first three tricks and decided to call it quits with still two tricks left to play, finishing eighth and last with a 23.39 total.
“Passion na lang,” said Didal on why she still competed.
Didal sustained her injury during the Red Bull Skate Levels Tournament.
China’s Chenxi Cui and Wenhui Zeng captured the gold and silver, respectively.
Didal’s manager Anthony Claravall insisted that an Olympic stint is still their goal. The Cebuana skateboarded is currently ranked no. 44 in the world, with only the Top 40 earning seats in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games.
Meanwhile, Skateboarding and Roller Sports Association of the Philippines Inc. bet Renzo Mark Feliciano also placed last in the men’s division with 48.59 markers, with China’s Jie Zhang (231.14), Indonesian Sanggoe Tanjung (200.63) and Chinese Jianjin Su (195.73) finishing in the Top 3.
