Maynilad Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) assured customers of adequate supply in the west concession area until the end of the year, as the Angat Dam is nearly full and the company began implementing recycling program.

Maynilad’s ‘new water’ treatment plant in Paranaque

Maynilad Water Services Inc. vice president and head of water supply operations division Ronaldo Padua said water level at Angat Dam, where the company gets 90 percent of its supply, is now at 207 meters, just below the 210-meter normal high level.

Padua said, however, the threat of the El Nino dry spell in the fourth quarter may force the National Water Resources Board (NWRB) to manage water allocation to ensure that supply would last until the dry season next year.

Padua said in a roundtable meeting with business journalists at Makati Shangri La Hotel Friday that Maynilad is also tapping Laguna Lake for supply and invested in new water treatment plants to cleanse used water flowing through the drainage system.  He said, however, that treating water from Laguna Lake or the drainage system is far more expensive than the process used for Angat Dam water.

He said regardless of the source, all water distributed by Maynilad is potable and safe for drinking.

Maynilad president and chief executive Ramoncito Fernandez said the company would build four new water treatment plants to increase production of new water—or recycled water—from 5 million liters per day to 97 million liters by 2027.

The company’s first “new water” treatment plant now serves nearly 13,000 customers in Barangays San Isidro and San Dionisio in Parañaque City, he said.
