Two female shooters have the best chance of earning qualifying points in the 2024 Paris Olympics in the coming Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

Expected to achieve this are Amparo “Ampao” Acuna and Franchette Quiroz, who left for China on Thursday with a nine-member national shooting delegation.

So far, Acuna is now no. 153 in the Olympic qualification rankings of the 50-meter rifle 3-prone position, and no. 175 in the 10-meter rifle event.

“I have been focusing on my technique and physical conditioning lang as preparations,” said Acuna.

Quiroz is climbing up in the women’s 10-meter air pistol rankings, reaching a high of no. 151.

So far, host nation France is guaranteed 12 quota places in the Olympics with one in each of the individual events.

According to the qualification rules for shooting, the highest-ranked shooter, who has not qualified yet or whose National Olympic Committee (NOC) does not have a berth in any of the twelve individual events, will obtain a direct Olympic quota place through the World Rankings.

The remaining 16 quota places are available to eligible NOCs under the Tripartite Commission Invitation to attain a maximum number of 340.

Last June, Acuna set another Philippine record when she surpassed the qualifying standard for the Hangzhou Asian Games, breaking the Philippine mark that she set last April at 583 points in the 50-meter rifle 3-position event.

Officials of the Philippine National Shooting Association said Acuna’s feat was a point ahead of the previous mark she made at 582 during the tryouts for the national team.
