Quezon City Mayor Joy Belmonte wants a 350-kilometer bike network before her second term ends in 2025.

Assistant city administrator Alberto Kimpo, in an interview, said the mayor has instructed him to provide more bike lanes across the city that shall provide better stops for cycling facilities linking them to other modes of public transportation.

In a turnover ceremony at the Quezon City hall path walk, Kimpo thanked MBC executive director Coco Alcuaz, executive vice president for external relations Serge Bernal, and Shell representatives for their support of the city government’s initiative.

It seeks to give importance to easing traffic congestion; promoting better health, and making mobility inclusive and accessible, especially for the majority who could not afford to take other modes of transport.

“The mayor wants to upgrade the bike facilities and provide a 350-km bike lane,” he said.

He welcomed the donation of some bike racks from the Makati Business Club and Shell Pilipinas Corp.

Kimpo urged business establishments to put up bike racks to accommodate clients and customers who use bicycles.

“Workers as well as clients need (bike) parking lane. That could be of big help,” he said. “If you could donate (to the city), we will welcome it.”
