ABOITIZ POWER Corporation (AboitizPower) has officially initiated its corporate electric vehicle (EV) fleet transformation program with the unveiling of new plug-in EVs at an event held at the Blue Leaf Cosmopolitan in Quezon City.

This launch signifies AboitizPower’s commitment to Republic Act 11697, known as the Electric Vehicle Industry Development Act (EVIDA), and its dedication to fostering a more sustainable and eco-friendly transportation landscape in the Philippines.

In line with the EVIDA’s goal to reduce the reliance on imported fossil fuels in the local transportation sector, the act mandates industrial and commercial entities to allocate at least 5% of their fleets for EVs.

“As a leader in the energy industry, we are dedicated to incorporating innovations that enhance the efficiency and sustainability of our operations,” stated AboitizPower President and CEO Manny Rubio.

The newly unveiled EVs, manufactured by Build Your Dreams (BYD), are set to be deployed in the franchise areas of AboitizPower distribution utilities (DUs), specifically Visayan Electric, Davao Light, and Cotabato Light.

This EV fleet transformation program reinforces the demand for cleaner energy sources and aligns seamlessly with AboitizPower’s growth strategy of adding 3,700 megawatts of renewable energy, such as solar, wind, and geothermal, to its generation portfolio over the next decade. This aligns with the Philippines’ objective of reducing its heavy reliance on imported fossil fuels for transportation and electricity generation by harnessing cleaner and indigenous energy sources.

Beyond emissions reduction, the program also delivers improved energy efficiency and transportation economics, with the cost per kilometer traveled being at least half compared to internal combustion engine vehicles.

In collaboration with its partners, AboitizPower currently boasts the largest and most diversified renewable energy platform in the Philippines in terms of installed capacity under its operational control. Nearly 1,000 megawatts of renewable energy projects, including wind and solar farms, as well as expanded geothermal capacities, are currently in development.
