“We welcome the decision of Vice President and Education Secretary Sara Duterte to take over the management and supervision of the 14 schools. This decision will greatly ease the worries and concerns of our students, parents, and teachers,” she said.

The mayor cited DepEd Order No. 023, series 2023, which states that: “Hence, in the pursuit of protecting the best interest and welfare of our learners, teachers, and non-teaching personnel, the Office of the Secretary shall directly supervise the management and administration of all 14 schools, pending a transition plan, effective immediately.”

It also indicated that all school activities, including those initiated by the city governments of Makati and Taguig, are subject to the prior approval of the Office of the Secretary (OSec) during the transition period.

The said order has nullified all previous orders and issuances made by the Department of Education and other national government agencies pertaining to the transfer of jurisdiction.

Mayor Abby said she looks forward to working wholeheartedly with the team created by Vice President Duterte to ensure a harmonious and effective transition.

Kaisa kami ni Vice President Sara sa kanyang layunin. Unahin natin ang kapakanan ng ating mga guro, mga kabataan at kanilang mga magulang,” she also said.

The mayor earlier said Makati is willing to provide free uniforms, shoes, school supplies, and other needs to over 30,000 public school students in 14 affected public schools in 10 EMBO barangays.

Under Mayor Abby Binay, Makati students receive sneakers, white socks, black leather shoes, reusable water tumblers, and Japanese-inspired Randoseru bags. Makati also provides them with hygiene kits, dental kits, anti-dengue kits, hard hats, emergency go bags, rain gear, like raincoats and rain boots, jackets, nutritious snacks, drinks, and field trips.

The 14 public schools located in the affected barangays in District 2 are Fort Bonifacio Elementary School, Cembo Elementary School, South Cembo Elementary School, Pitogo Elementary School, East Rembo Elementary School, Rizal Elementary School, Comembo Elementary School, West Rembo Elementary School, Pembo Elementary School, Makati Science High School, Benigno “Ninoy” S. Aquino High School, Tibagan High School, Fort Bonifacio High School, and Pitogo High School.
