For Kathryn Bernardo, being “a very good girl’ or being a good person in general is very complex to explain. Taking a cue from the title of her latest film, which also stars BAFTA and Golden Globe nominee Dolly de Leon, she explained that goodness stems from honesty and extending help to others.
Yet, for her, embodying goodness involves embracing imperfections, and welcoming life’s complexities, messiness, and chaotic moments. It entails acknowledging one’s flaws and still desiring to be a good person despite them.
“Being a good girl or person means accepting your imperfections, accepting all the mess and the chaos and your flaws, and through all that, at the end of the day, you still want to be a good person, as long as you try to be a better person, then you’re good,” Kathryn shared during the grand media conference for A Very Good Girl.
In the upcoming film, Kathryn takes on the role of Philo, a seeker of vengeance, while Dolly embodies the character of the affluent and enigmatic Mother Molly. The movie, a celebration of Star Cinema’s 30th anniversary, delves into the intricate plot of revenge and intrigue.
“It’s such an honor because I will be working, she agreed to work with me, with the one and only Ms. Dolly de Leon. For sure marami akong matututunan sa kanya. I can’t wait to meet her again…What a great honor na gumawa at nabigyan niya ako ng oras,” Kathryn said.
Scheduled for nationwide release on September 27, A Very Good Girl unfolds the narrative of Philomena Angeles (Kathryn), who is determined to dismantle the reputation of her fellow socialite and business magnate, Mother Molly Suzara (Dolly). As Philo delves deeper into the opulent yet shadowy existence of Mother Molly, her intricate revenge scheme becomes more intricate than she initially imagined.
“It’s a gray character, and it’s fun to portray. It’s a project that I have long been requesting from Star Cinema, and I’m glad it’s a lot different than the usual role I play,” the young superstar added.
This female-driven film marks Kathryn’s highly anticipated return to the big screen following the success of her 2019 blockbuster, Hello, Love, Goodbye. Meanwhile, for internationally acclaimed actor Dolly de Leon, A Very Good Girl signifies a significant milestone as her inaugural lead role and her first collaboration with ABS-CBN.
