President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has expressed his support for the proposed procurement revisions under the Government Procurement Reform
Act to modernize procurement processes.

During a palace briefing, Department of Budget and Management chief Amenah Pangandaman said that they are hoping for Congress to support
the planned revisions in updating the country’s procurement process.

“There has already been a rapid transformation in technology over the past two decades – and the pandemic propelled the urgency for digital
transactions in the country. That’s why our President is correct – that we need to make government procurement more attuned to our
changing times,”  Pangandaman said.

She added that the revision of the procurement process would also aid the country in keeping with the changing times and technological
advancements.

The consolidated proposed amendments would be ready in the next two weeks and would be presented to lawmakers, according to Pangandaman.

Moreover, Pangandaman said that the proposed amendment would address underspending in government agencies.

To solve the issue, DBM has issued a circular directing agencies to provide catch-up plans for their respective project implementations,
she added.
