The Kapamilya actress Gillian Vicencio revealed that her co-star, Yves Flores, asked her if he could “court” her after two years. This revelation came during the press conference of their new series. Gillian shared that it happened while they were still shooting 2 Good 2 Be True.
She said, “He asked me if he could court me after two years when we were still shooting 2 Good [2 Be True].”
Yves and Gillian first worked together in the series as friends of Daniel Padilla’s character, Red and Tox, respectively.
“It was just a joke, I was just kidding. But actually, it’s been almost a year now, so there’s still one more year to go. Let’s see,” quipped Yves.
In her defense, the actress quickly clarified that she wasn’t sure if the actor was joking or not. “I didn’t know if he was serious or not, so I just laughed it off,” explained Gillian.
Meanwhile, when asked about their real relationship status, both answered that they were just friends. Gillian said, “For now, let’s focus on work first. Then let’s see where it really goes.” She added, “Probably, there’s a mutual understanding about each other’s feelings.”
They admitted though that they see each other as boyfriend-girlfriend material. Yves stated, “First of all, she’s easy to please, easy to make laugh. She’s a simple person, doesn’t need expensive things. She has simple desires. She’s easy to communicate with, and she listens to me.”
“Because she’s really sweet, and she puts effort into it…because she’s selfless. When she loves someone, when someone is important to her, she will make an effort and show her feelings,” Gillian added.
Yves also shared that even their co-stars in 2 Good 2 Be True were curious about the status of their relationship. “This is just how we are with Gill. Maybe that’s what others notice, that they think we’re together, but we’re not. This is just us, this is our natural way,” explained Yves.
Following the success of their unexpected love team in the series, Yves and Gillian became the lead roles in their own series, ReTox 2 Be Continued.
“I didn’t expect that there would be a spinoff and that Gillian and I would be the leads,” Yves said.
Helmed by director Paco Sta. Maria, ReTox 2 Be Continued is a spinoff of the KathNiel series, but this time, it focuses on Red and Tox’s characters, their respective families, their friendship, and their relationship.
“We didn’t expect ReTox at first; it wasn’t in the script given to us initially, it wasn’t in the story. Then in some scenes, ReTox’s banter would just happen spontaneously without being scripted,” Yves said.
Yves also credited film director Mae Cruz Alviar for how their love team started. “During the first cycle, Director Mae said, ‘Why not make them a love team?’ I was surprised because in my eyes, Gillian was like a kid. We three (Yves, Daniel Padilla, and Matt Evans) are all tall, like we’re the big brothers, and then there’s this young girl with us,” he continued.
“And then over time, it’s like they see something that we don’t see on the screen. Eventually, we realized that there’s something when we watch, which we don’t intentionally do,” the actor added.
“Of course, it’s heartwarming and delightful because even Yves and I don’t see it, we don’t understand what people find cute. So, we don’t really understand,” agreed Gillian.
