President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., has appointed Lt. Gen. Roy Galido as the 66th commanding general of the Philippine Army.

Galido, who was promoted in April, was commander of the “Kampilan” 6th Infantry Division based in Maguindanao del Norte from August 2022 until he took over the Western Mindanao Command based in Zamboanga City last January 27.

He is taking over from General Romeo Brawner Jr., who became Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines last July 19.

The Commission on Appointments approved Galido’s promotion last May 16.

In a statement, the Department of National Defense “acknowledges the capabilities and experience of the new Army chief, which was honed as a result of his significant feats against persons who defy the law and government, especially in Mindanao region where he spent majority of his military career as an officer.”

Galido was a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis-Lahi” Class of 1990.
