Marikina orders residents to prepare for evacuation The Marikina City government advised residents to prepare for evacuation early Thursday, amid rising water levels in the Marikina River due to Typhoon Egay.

The water level in Marikina River rose to 15.1 meters at 6 a.m. Thursday, authorities said. According to PAGASA, there are no storm signals raised over Metro Manila, but moderate to heavy rainshowers are expected to continue.

Egay is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday, but another low pressure area is expected to intensify and enter the country’s monitoring area soon, PAGASA also said.

Egay” (international name Doksuri) pounded the northern Philippines on Wednesday, killing at least one person, toppling trees, knocking out power and dumping heavy rain that caused flash floods and landslides as thousands sheltered with neighbors or in emergency evacuation centers. Classes and work have been suspended in affected areas, authorities announced on Thursday.
