Major banks on Wednesday decided to close or shorten their banking hours in several areas in northern Luzon amid the impact of supertyphoon Egay.
Bank of the Philippine Islands, the third-largest lender in terms of assets, said it closed 38 of its branches in northern Luzon after the local governments announced work suspensions because of the typhoon.
These BPI branches are located in Burnham, Session Road, Malcolm, Legarda, Abanao, Camp John Hay, and Gen. Luna, all in Baguio; La Trinidad, Benguet; BPI Vigan; Laoag Fonacier; Cauayan San Fermin; Cauayan, Isabela; Tuguegarao Junction; Laoag Rizal; Batac; Laoag; Ilagan, Isabela; Tuguegarao College Avenue; San Nicolas; Santiago; Tuguegarao Main; Santiago Panganiban; Tuguegarao Buntun; Roxas Isabela; San Carlos City Town Center; Urdaneta Alexander; Dagupan Arellano; Rosales; Dagupan; Dagupan Lucao; Urdaneta McArthur; Dagupan Karanglaan; Alaminos; Mangaldan, Pangasinan; SF La Union South; Agoo, La Union; SF La Union Branch, and Candon.
Metropolitan Bank & Trust Co., the second-biggest bank, said in an advisory that it prioritized the “safety of its customers and Metrobankers.”
“Affected bank branches by typhoon Egay [international name: Doksuri] in Northern Luzon will either be closed or have shortened banking hours today, July 26,” the bank said.
It said its internet banking platform, that includes the Metrobank Mobile app, Metrobank’s automated teller machines and cash acceptance machines, would remain available for customers to conduct their financial transactions.
